As I continue to procrastinate and then NOT procrastinate and then procrastinate AGAIN, I fill in those gaps of procrastination with reading. (BTW, I was told that writers of fiction reserve the right to create their own words like “Fantabulous” – is this ok? What do you think?)
What am I procrastinating about? The piece of fiction I am working on that WILL with any good luck get published and some other blogger will review and rave about!
I am a collector of debut novels, and this one is at the TOP of my list. I picked it up as a fluke in Maine while visiting my dear true friend Helen a couple of weeks ago. I went to my favorite Maine bookstore Maine Coast Book Shop & Cafe of Damariscotta, and I always leave with a wonderful read. This one did not disappoint.
In fact, I fell in love with the characters, and felt such a divine connection with them. It’s a coming of age store set in the 1960′s. It starts in 1963 and spans about 5 years. The main character, Florine, is 12 when it begins and she lives in a town referred to as “The Point”, along the coast of Maine, where life can be ever so brutal and rewarding at the same time. She is trying to find her way as her mother has disappeared. Good thing she has her grandmother to fall back on as she tries to make sense of life and all its complexities growing up in a small coastal town in Maine. I LOVED IT! I really didn’t want it to end. Yet, Morgan Callan Rogers somehow pulled off the ending splendidly which I find to be extremely difficult or lacking in so many other novels. Please, please pick it up! It’s more than worth it! You could also order it through Amazon or Barnes and Noble, if that’s easier.
Back to my writing this morning, but first the business of the February Giveaway Winner:
